Hon. Osagie Ehanire
Honourable Minister of Health
Dr Osagie Ehanire from Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State was born on November 4th 1946. A medical doctor, he attended Government College Ibadan, Oyo for his West African School Certificate as well as Higher School Certificate (HSC) and passed the latter with distinction.
He is a graduate of Medicine form the University of Munich. In 1976 he attended the prestigious Royal College of Surgeon in Ireland, Dublin where he obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Anaesthetics as well as Certificates in General Surgery and Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery and became a fellow of the famous West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1984.
Dr. Ehanire has worked extensively in Germany as resident Anesthesiologist, resident Vascular Surgeon and resident general surgeon in Thoracic Surgery at various hospitals.
He returned to Nigeria in 1982 to work at the Department of Surgery (Orthopaedic Surgery) University of Benin Teaching Hospital up till 1984 after which he joined Shell Development Company (SPDC) Hospital Warri between 1985 and 1990. Dr. Ehanire has served at various times as a prominent member of the Boards of Edo State Health Management Board and T.Y Danjuma Foundation among others.
As a leader of the CPC in Edo State, Dr Ehanire worked towards the emergence of the APC as a formidable party and was also a member of the Buhari Campaign Organisation.

The Federal Ministry of Health is responsible for developing and implementing polices and programmes, along with other necessary actions that will improve and maintain a national health system capable of delivering an effective, efficient, affordable and quality service, and to foster an improved quality of life for all of Nigeria.
To reduce the morbidity and mortality due to communicable diseases to the barest minimum, reverse the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases, meet global targets on the elimination and eradication of diseases, and significantly increase the life expectancy and quality of life of Nigerians.
To develop and implement policies and programmes as well as undertake other necessary actions that will strengthen the national health system to be able to deliver effective, efficient, quality and affordable health services that foster improved health status of Nigerians to serve as the engine for the pursuit of accelerated economic growth and sustained development.
