Geographic Profile: Gombe State has an area 20,265 Square Kilometers with a population 2.4 Million with its Capital in Gombe. It is located in the north eastern zone, right within the expansive savannah region and shares a common boundary with the states of Borno, Taraba, Adamawa and Bauchi.Gombe has two distinct climates, the dry season (November-March) and the rainy season (April-October) with an average rainfall of 850mm.
Ethnic Profile: Gombe State has various ethnic groups like Tangale, Terawa, Waja, Kumo, Fulani, Kanuri, Bolewa, Jukun, Pero/Shonge, Tula, Cham, Lunguda, Dadiya, Banbuka, Hausa and Kamo/Awak among others.
Economic Profile: The people of Gombe state are primarily farmers producing food and cash crops, they include Cereals: Maize, Soghum,Rice and wheats: Legumes: Cowpeas, groundnuts,soya beans and bambara nuts. Fruits: Orange, Lemon, Mango, Guava, Paw-paw and grapes. Vegetables: Tomatoes, pepper, onions, okra, pumpkin and melon. Tree Crops: Gum Arabic, Kenaf, sugar cane, sunflower and ginger.
Occupation: About 80 percent of the population are engaged in Agriculture.
Local Goverment Area (LGAs) There are 11 Local Governments Areas (LGAs), namely: Akko, Balanga, Billiri, Dukku, Funakaye, Gombe, Kaltungo, Kwami, Nafada, Shongom, and Yamaltu Deba, most of which were created in 1989 or 1992 and thus existed before 1996, when three new LGAs were carved out to make up the present eleven.
